Grading and Progress Reports

Happy Friday Kindergarten Families!!!
I wanted to send out a friendly reminder... progress reports are going home today in your child's daily folder.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns the report card and looking at the benchmarks on the school's website.  Don't be overly concerned if your child did not receive a "3" in certain areas and please remember that a "4" is very rare and extremely hard to achieve.  a "3" indicates mastery while a "2" is still a GOOD grade.  Based on the standards, a grade of a "2" means that you are progressing in your learning and education, but you have some minor errors or misconceptions that you need to fix before you have reached full mastery.  A grade of a "2" means that you are grasping the material.  Mastery (a "3") means that at any given time I can ask you a question and you can answer it correctly.  Not everyone is there yet, and that is OK!  If your child received a "1" please read through the explanation as to why on the progress report.

We do not emphasize grades in our class, especially at this point in the school year.  The process and working to achieve each child's personal best and learning the material is the most important thing.  Since we have just started school and begun the routines, procedures, and expectations, the students are all still learning and adapting to life in school.  Due to the beginning of the school year, we also do not have an abundance of grades for each subject area.

Please also remember that we have parent-teacher conferences in two weeks and will be able to discuss any grades and concerns further at that time.

Have a great weekend!  A blog post about next week will be up soon!
