Weekly News...

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  Some information for the week...

*Don't forget that Wednesday is Curriculum Night.  It will begin at 6pm in the gym.  Heidi Tringali, Occupational Therapist, will speak to you first.  She is an AMAZING speaker with a wealth of knowledge and information for all parents.  After Heidi's speech Mr. Yodice will say a few words and you will come to my classroom.  At that time, I will discuss with you our curriculum, behavior policy, special things in class, etc.  This is also a time for you to ask questions pertaining to classroom rules, procedures, etc.  Please do not ask child-specific questions, as it is not an appropriate time.  I look forward to seeing all of you Wednesday night!

*Reading folders will go home Monday.  Things got too busy last week for the students to learn the rules/procedures.  They will not have books in them.  Before sending home books, I wanted students to practice some flashcards each night.  The flashcards in your child's folder are specific to the skills he/she did not know during staggered entry assessments and each child has cards he/she needed to practice.  If your child received letter cards, the yellow letters are the sounds he/she did not know while the orange are the letter names he/she did not know.  Please review all flashcards in the reading folders nightly this week and as needed moving forward.  The noun cards have directions and were not tested (if applicable to your child).

*Please return your GoPlaySave books as soon as possible.

*Please make a donation to our Annual Campaign as soon as possible!

*In social studies & science we are continuing our studies of transportation this week.  If you have any modes of transportation toys at home (cars, bikes, trains, etc.) please LABEL them and send them to school with your child by Wednesday.  They will be used to do math sorting activities and returned by Friday.  I will talk to the class tomorrow morning about the difference between toys at school for learning versus just bringing toys to school.  =)

*In language arts we are studying the "If you Give a...." books by Laura Numeroff this week.  I want to do a pancake cooking activity on Thursday to incorporate math and science skills.  I'd like to have the students make the pancakes as we as try 3 different kinds of syrup with our pancakes (maple, strawberry, & blueberry) and graphing what we like most.  We will also be doing several other activities this week based on the stories!  I will make sure that all foods are allergy-safe for the students.  If you are able to send in the various types of syrup, please sign-up at Sign-up Genius here.  We will be using this site throughout the year for parties, class events, conferences, etc. so it is good to establish a username/password now.

*Just a reminder that HomeLinks math pages are optional.  Please remember that all assignments do not need to be completed each week- use moderation and gauge your child as needed.

*We took our first trip to our school library this past Wednesday.  The children learned the rules of the library and how to check out their books.  Not all of the children received their library cards on Wednesday because they weren't processed yet or Mrs. Keel didn't have a signed permission form.  The books went home in a Gallon Ziploc bag.  Please try to keep your child's books in this bag when they are not being read.  The books should return to school in the bag as well.  Without the bag, students cannot check out new books.  This is to ensure that the books are kept free from any damage (due to small rips or tears or leaky water bottles) and that they are also kept separate from Imaginon Public Library Books or classroom books.

*If you are planning on attending any of our field trips as a chaperone, please keep in mind that you will need to fill out the chaperone form on our blog.  You can access that form under the Field Trips tab.  By you filling out the form, this allows me to keep track of who the chaperones are for each trip and it keeps it all on a roster for me.  Please send in your labeled chaperone money as soon as possible as well.  I appreciate your help with this!

*More information about Friday's Uptown Transportation Trip is to come soon!
