This Week...

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.  A few general reminders:
  • Yearbooks cost $15 and can be paid cash or via check (to MRSA).  Orders are due December 11th.
  • St. John's Photography picture information went home last week.  If you want to order pictures you can do so through their website.  Whether or not you want to buy pictures, you still have to make a yearbook selection.  This means.... please log-on and find the picture you'd like your child's yearbook photo to be.  Select yearbook photo and go through the entire check-out process.  You still have to input your name, address, etc. but it will not bill you.  Once you've gone through the entire process it will email you a yearbook picture receipt showing no charges were made.
  • Coming up this week we do not have school on Tuesday in observance of Veteran's Day.
  • Our Seussical field trip to Matthews Playhouse is on Wednesday.  We will be leaving school at 10:00am and will return to eat a late lunch at school.  We have already signed a contract and paid for this trip in advance so only the chaperones listed will be able to attend.  Chaperones-- please make sure you are at school and signed-in by 10am.  Thanks!
  • Please keep in mind that many evenings and weekends I do not check my school email and many times during school hours I am in meetings, etc. and don't have time to respond immediately.  If you email me after hours I may not see it until the following morning, but I will always respond as quickly as possible.
We've gotten a little behind with our reading groups, etc. and we've gotten ahead in other areas.... overall, thanks for your flexibility.  =)  We will be changing some procedures in regards to reading groups over the next few days to better fit our students' needs.  Keep your eyes out for any notes or emails regarding changes for your child.

We will be starting spelling words and vocabulary words this coming week as well.  Please, please, PLEASE do not stress over the spelling and vocabulary words or over-emphasize them at home.  Learning is a process and the idea of continual drill and practice only hinders your child's excitement to learn and grow.  More information will come about spelling and vocabulary words on Monday.... but the less you stress-out and practice, the more calm and confident your child will be.  =)

Report cards went home on Friday.  Please keep in mind that 2's are OK and 3's are the expectation, as 4's are VERY rare.  I included many individualized comments in regards to your child's grades so please read through them, check the benchmarks here on our school's website, and let me know if you still have any questions.

On Monday your child will receive a "naked turkey" handout along with instructions for the project.  Projects are due November 21st and need to be 100% child created to earn a "3" or the grade will reflect parental/sibling assistance.

THANKSGIVING FEAST
We will be learning about what it means to be Thankful as we study the First Thanksgiving starting the end of next week through the holiday break.  We will be having a Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, November 25th.  Our feast will be from 1:30-3:00.  Please sign-up on here  to bring an item.  It does not have to be traditional American Thanksgiving foods.  It can be any foods that are traditional for your family to eat and share over Thanksgiving or family gatherings.  Please list the item you plan to bring.

If you are joining us during the feast, please make note of that on the sign-up or email me to let me know.  This will allow me to have as many chairs and plates/utensils as are necessary for our guests.

Dishes for our feast can be brought in at the time you are joining us for the feast or sent in that morning.  Please make sure the cranberries, potatoes, and OJ are sent in by Monday, November 24th!  The students will be cooking mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce to contribute to the feast as we learn what it means to appreciate hard work and coming together for a meal together.

As papers are posted in the halls and are sent home you get an idea of what we have been working on.  However, I will also try to include the skills from the previous week on my blog posts to keep you informed.  Last week we worked on the various ways to solve addition problems, tens frames, syllables, ch, sh, wh, th, spiders, voting and election processes, synonyms, and ordinal numbers.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
