Weekly News

This week….. WOW.
BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!

We are going to have a great time this week!

First I want to thank Leyla, Ria, and Divya's families for the pumpkins.  We had a wonderful time exploring the pumpkins as we did math and science activities.  I also want to thank our chaperones.  We had a wonderful trip to the pumpkin patch last week as well.

To hit the highlights for this week...
  • This week we will be learning about Halloween and Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.  In fact, we started learning about Day of the Dead on Friday.  It is a Mexican holiday celebrated October 31-November 2 to honor family members and loved ones who have passed away.  As one of the celebratory parts of the holiday, altars are created with decorations and photographs of those who have died.  We have made an altar in our classroom and encourage you to bring in a photo of any family members who have died to honor them.  This is optional but a great way to learn about other customs and cultures.
  • Thursday is our class party.  It will begin at 1:45 and last until 2:45.  Thank you to everyone who has signed up to bring something or send something in.  If you have signed up for materials, please send them in by Thursday morning so we can have the stations all set up and ready that afternoon.  If you signed up for food, you can send it in with your child or bring it with you if you are planning to volunteer at a station.
  • Our trip to the retirement center is also on Thursday.  We will be leaving around 10:15 and returning before lunch.  This is a FUN trip for the children rather than an educational experience (although there is still so much to learn and experience by trick-or-treating at a retirement home).  All of the candy collected will be bagged and sent home with your child.  We cannot guarantee that it will be nut-free or allergy free so please go through your child's bag before giving it to them.
  • COSTUMES:  The children will be able to wear their costumes to the retirement home as well as during the class party.  However, we still have P.E. and other learning on Thursday.  Please do not send your child to school in their costume.  We will allow them to change before the field trip and before the party.  However, your child must be fully independent in putting on their costume.  Mrs. Kang and I cannot help unless they put it on over their regular clothes for the day.  Please help your child practice putting on and taking off their costume this week.  Please also remember to send them to school in tennis shoes for P.E.  Please also note that costumes are optional and your child is not required to wear one.  =)
  • We will go to Imaginon Tuesday afternoon.  Please let me know if you do not approve for your child to attend this trip, as it is a change from the original permission slip.
  • Picture Day is Wednesday.  You will be able to order pictures after the fact.  Keep an eye out for information on the school's newsletter.
  • Friday there is NO SCHOOL due to a teacher workday.  Please have a safe and fun Halloween!
