Night of the Notables & Our Week

Good morning Kindergarten Families!   Wow, the weather in Charlotte is CRAZY!  It has been warm, cold, rainy, windy, hot, etc. every other hour!  For these reasons, please make sure  you are sending your child to school in layers (and with a jacket or sweater).  Our classroom temperatures change almost as frequently as the weather outside as well.  =)  With the crazy temperature changes and beginning of the winter season, please make sure you are also keeping an eye on your child's hand washing to reduce the amount of germs and bacteria they come into contact with.  As a reminder, your child must be fever-free and vomit-free for 24 hours before returning to school.  This means that if your child is sent home from school with a fever, he/she may not return the next day.  This is not to inconvenience you, but to reduce the amount of germs and sickness that spread around our school and classroom.

Night of the Notables
Night of the Notables is tonight at 6:30pm.  Typically school-wide the evening's events take place in the child's classroom or in the common areas, so ours will be in our classroom.  When you first come in, I will have an activity for the parents to complete.  The students know that they are not allowed to assist.  =)  Then, we will be doing individual introductions to the entire group around 6:40pm and the event will begin.  The purpose of the event is for the adults to mingle around the room and interact with the notables.  So, as parents you can ask questions about the likes and dislikes of the child, information about their family or family tree, similarities and differences to ____, their project they created, etc.  Please make sure you are walking around and interacting with the students.  If you have a sibling you'd like to see in another classroom or if you'd like to visit other classrooms, please feel free to come and go as well.

Holidays Around the World
We have begun our studies of holidays, customs, cultures, and beliefs around the world.  We are learning about several different winter holidays and celebrations and the religions/reasons behind them.

Other Activities This Week
On Wednesday, we will be watching the Polar Express and drinking hot chocolate with our 3rd grade buddies.  Yippee!  Don't forget that I will be absent Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Email Mrs. Kang or call the school if you need anything.  She has all of our plans set and ready to go!  Please remember to return any outstanding school library books by next Friday before break.  We have not been attending as frequently as planned due to our busy schedules and plan to do better when we return from break.

Next Week
  • Our Gingerbread Chase/Polar Express and Imaginon library trip is next Wednesday.  Children are able to wear their pajamas on the trip, but walking shoes are a must.
  • Our Holiday party is Thursday 8:45-10:15am.  Please sign-up to bring a dish.  I will purchase and provide all craft materials.  The sign-up is here
  • Friday December 20th we will be having our read-in.  Pajamas, books, blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc. are welcome as long as your child is able to carry them.
