Weekly News and a Look Ahead....
I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing 3-day weekend. A few things...
- Thank you for all of the cards, gifts, and treats as well as overwhelming support from Teacher Appreciation Week last week. A special thanks to Mrs. Ramesh, Mrs. Carroll, and Mr. Duffy for watching the class during our luncheon.
- Last week we had a visit from dentist Jason Sperati, a pediatric dentist. He did a wonderful job explaining denal health and hygeine to the students and they really enjoyed his visit!!!
- We also had a wonderful time at the retirement home. We met many elderly people in their 90's and even a lady who was 102! The class did a wonderful job of introducing themselves and practicing basic social skills as well as meeting someone for the first time practices. It was a wonderful way to practice many social studies standards and brighten some retiree's days as well with valentines and songs.
- Thanks for all of the treats that were sent in for our Hearty Party as well. We enjoyed popcorn, carrots, cucumbers, watermelon, grapes, and other yummy treats. The students have really enjoyed learning about their bodies and nutrition, so your support of the party was great!!!
- I am going to Raleigh at the beginning of next month for a presentation at the Technology conference (NCTIES). I was notified yesterday that they will have a SmartBoard available if we are able to find 1-3 students who are interested in coming for the presentation to do a "live show" for other teachers, administrators, etc. in the state. This is a HUGE honor for our school and our class. If anyone is interested, please let me know!!! It would be a day trip (present 11:45-1:45) on Thursday, March 7th.
- Last week a few students in Mrs. Cleary's class were sent home with lice. Due to the close proximity of her class with ours during the dentist visit and field trip to the retirement home, our class' heads were also checked for lice. The students were not told why their heads were being checked other than "They just went outside for recess and every once in a while it's good to look at their hair and make sure everything is good." We did not have any confirmed or possible cases in our class, but just be aware.
- Dr. Seuss week is finally here!!! Read Across America week and the celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday is next week. This is one of THE BEST weeks of Kindergarten, as it is full of fun activities, tons of books, science experiments, and much, much more. Each day will also be a fun day of dressing up. I have included a picture below that includes a schedule of fun dress-up days as well as items we need to borrow for next week. Please send in any items between now and next week. Also, please visit MRSAEvents.com to sign-up to bring something for our special brunch next Friday!!!
