Important Dates for the End of the Year

Good morning Kindergarten Families! I started the blog post yesterday in the hopes of getting it out but, alas, time got away from me.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break!  I had a fantastic time hanging out with Corvan and relaxing with the gorgeous weather!  Spring Break is a time of reflection and rejuvenation for everyone, so we are ready to "hit the ground running" with the last 9 weeks of school.  I don't know how the end of the year is here already!!!  It seems like just yesterday we were having Move-Up Day and your children were the in-coming Kindergarten students!  =)

We have a LOT going on at the end of the school year.  I thought it would be helpful to condense all of the important dates into one email for you to reference (especially since some dates have changed!).  Please note that our testing dates are different than those listed on the emails sent out over break from the school.  Also, the date for Grandparent's Day, NOTA, Gem Mine field trip and Field Day are different from the beginning of the year as well (other dates may have been added or changed as well).

Before break we had a wonderful visit from Dr. Sperati who taught us all about teeth and healthy teeth habits.  I was told we also had a great visit to the McDowell Nature Preserve.  I hated to miss the trip, but at the last minute my babysitter's child had to flu and I had not childcare.  We also learned about eggs, did experiments, continued work on our Eric Carle stories, learned about names for numbers, did x and z handwriting, and practiced contractions.
This week we will continue writing our books patterned after the work of Eric Carle's books.  We will also be learning about recycling.  Our Imaginon field trip has been cancelled this week.  I was told that President Obama is visiting the library so it is closed all week.  Please return or renew your child's books so you do not incur fines.  We will attend the library next Friday instead.  Also, our recycling center field trip has been changed to Wednesday.  We do not have access to the bus due to a field trip conflict so we will be using parent drivers with booster seats and the small bus.  If you do not give permission for your child to attend the trip based on the new transportation arrangements please let me know ASAP.

We will be having a Kindergarten "career fair" on Thursday, April 30th with Mrs. Z's class at 8:30am to coincide with our studies about community helpers.  We would love for parents to come in and host a mini station for our students about their careers.  It will be informal and students will be rotating among stations where different parents and careers will be.  We'd love for you to come!!!  Topics to be included would be about your job, any tools you use and may be able to bring (even pens, calculators, etc are tools!), a uniform or dress code you follow, etc.  If you are able to attend, please email me your job!  We hope to make this a grand success!
