Weekly News and Information About Events

Good morning!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend.  As the school year some to an end and things get busy I want to update you about some events.  Please let me know if you have any questions. 

• Congratulations to Sam and Vishnu!  They will be representing our class at the school talent show!  We had 6 people from our class try out and they all did a fantastic job!  Remind your child to start practicing for next year!!!

• Night of the Arts is tonight.  Below I have included the address/information from the PTO newsletter.  I have not received any additional information about the event so I do not know the order of the performances, where the students should gather, etc.  Last year the event was also at Halton Theater and all students sat in the audience with their families until they were called to back stage in between events.  I assume it will be the same this year unless additional information goes out today.  We'll play it by ear tonight. of the Arts: ,y 14

• Many questions have been asked about the Homework (Reading Log) section on the progress report. I believe that many students whose reading logs do not reflect nightly reading do indeed read at night.  However, in 1st grade it is a requirement that the students must do independently from day 1.  Although it has been required in K all year, we are not really strict about it throughout the year.  I like to officially include it on the 4th quarter progress report and report card to begin establishing writing down nightly reading as a habit to prepare the students for 1st grade.  

• Our Summer Birthday Party date will be moved to Friday, May 31st due to other events happening the last week of May.  It will be from 2:15-3:00ish outside on the playground.  If your child has a summer birthday, please sign-up to send in supplies/ingredients for the ice cream party.  If you are able to attend and assist, please let me know as well.  You can sign-up on MRSAEvents.com or by emailing me.  Students with summer birthdays that will be celebrating on this day are: Sammy, Dylan, Akansha, and April.  

• Our last Imaginon library trip will be Tuesday, May 28th.  We have a little money left over from our yearly trips fund.  Miss Crowther and I would love to take the kids to Fuel Pizza on the Green for a picnic lunch before our trip to the library.  Parents who work in uptown (or would otherwise like to join) are welcome.  Please let me know if you are interested in this happening by emailing me by next Wednesday, May 22 so I can get it arranged.  If we get a positive response, I'd love to make this happen!  

• Our end of the year LUAU will be Thursday, June 6th.  This is a fun-filled event every year for the students.  More information to come for this... 

• Reminder: Move-up day is May 29th.  Money and chaperone sign-ups for our Discovery Place field trip  May 30th were due after Spring Break.  The trip has already been paid for and arranged, so last minute sign-ups for this trip are not able to be incorporated.
