News, Happenings, & Information
As of Monday, I didn't have any "major" news to disseminate, so I decided to wait until I had some additional news and information for everyone. I cannot believe that Winter Break is only a week away.... this year seems as if it continues to fly by. Here's the news and happenings until break. Lots of reminders... so please take the time to read through it. Please let me know if you have any questions.
- Night of the Notables- This event will occur from 6:00-7:00 in our classroom and other classrooms around the school. Our class will have formal introductions at 6:10 p.m. After that, parents and other attending adults can walk around and ask the students about their character, book, etc.
- Your child will not need their book, items, or costume at school. Just bring them to the event.
- Your child will have their desk area to use for props.
- Please visit Jason's Deli before the event for our school-wide fundraiser!
- Holiday Party- Just a reminder.... our holiday party is Monday!!! Please let me know ahead of time by Friday if you will be attending this event so I can get the crafts and plans ready. Please send in or bring all holiday food on Monday. A reminder of what your child is signed up for is below as well as the volunteers I have thus far.
- Library Trip- Next Tuesday, we will visit Imaginon before Winter Break. Please let me know if you do not want your child to check out books (because they will be late and you will be fined if you do not return or renew them over break). Please let me know by 8:30 Tuesday morning because I do not always have time to check my email throughout the school day.
- Pajama Day- Next Wednesday is our pajama day and read-in. It is a relaxed day in order to read books and enjoy each other's company before the break. If you've signed up for a snack, you can send it in on that day or before hand.
- Book Exchange- I would love to do a fun book exchange in honor of our read-in next Wednesday. Participation in the book exchange is optional. If your child would like to participate, please send in a wrapped book by next Wednesday (Dec. 19). It can be ANY book (chapter book, picture book, etc.). It can be a hardback book or a softback book and it can also be brand new or slightly used. Each student who brings in a book will be able to choose a wrapped book to take home and keep. Please let me know if your child will be participating in this fun activity and keep in mind that he/she can donate a used book in good condition for a different book from a friend.
- Field Trip Money- If you have not turned in your field trip money for January, please do so ASAP. Field trip money must be received before the break in order to pay for your child's spot on the trips.
- Second Grade Bee Fundraiser- If you want to send money in with your child for this fundraiser (each item is $1.00), please give it to them in their lunch box or send it with a note/labeled envelope so we know what the money is for. Children are able to purchase things at lunch.
- Donations- We have a few events going on at the school that are accepting donations right now. A first grader is collecting winter clothes, boots, etc. to donate. 3rd grade and upper-level Spanish are collecting toiletries and other items. If you have anything you'd like to donate, please send it in.
- Candy Cane-o-Gram Fundraiser- The 8th grade students are selling candy cane grams in order to raise money for the Washington D.C. trip. If you want to purchase these, you can do it online or send in the form. They are also available for purchase at lunch. However, if you are sending in money, please specify what it is for (and who).
- Polar Express- We will be watching the Polar Express with our 3rd grade buddies on Friday and Monday. This movie is rated G, so parent permission is not required. However, please let me know if you do not want your child to participate and I will make sure to provide work for them to complete in another room during this time.
