Weekly Newsletter

Weekly Newsletter: Nov. 26-30
§  Welcome back!  I hope everyone enjoyed their 5 day break and time with family and friends over Thanksgiving.
§  Recyclable items- Thank you to everyone who has sent in recyclable items for our art center.  Right now, we have enough egg cartons, plastic containers, container lids, and cardboard.  THANKS!!!  I will let you know when these supplies run low again.  We are still in need of empty DVD cases, metal mint or coffee tins, etc.
§  Snack Cart- THANKS!!!  I wanted to thank everyone for their donations to the snack cart throughout the month.  On Wednesdays throughout the school year you can put 50cents in your child’s lunch box for them to purchase a snack cart item during lunch.  Disclaimer: MOST of the food is junk food items.
§  Winter Party/Celebrations- I see that many people have signed up on MRSAEvents for a country/food during the winter party.  THANK YOU!!!  If you have not already signed up, please take a look and pick a food to send in.  If you are able to help at the party/craft day, please let me know.  Also, we will be celebrating Christmas and winter holidays in many ways throughout the month of December.  We will learn about how Christmas is the same and different in countries all over the globe.  We will also celebrate Kwanzaa, Ramadan, Hanukkah, Diwali, Saint Lucia Day, etc. to discuss the cultural similarities and differences of families and holidays (per the state standards).  If your family celebrates a specific holiday or has a tradition from a different country, please email me so I can include it in our study.
**Also…. I have purchased items for each day of December as our advent calendar, so each child will come home with a treat each day.**
§  Pictures- I still have not received any emailed pictures or pictures on a CD from parties, field trips, or events.  We have pictures that we have taken but would love to include yours as well!
§  Emails- In a few situations, parents have sent me emails that I have not received.  As a good rule, if it is not a holiday, break, or weekend and I have not responded to your email within a few days, I probably have not received it or got busy and overlooked it.  Please resend at any time. J
§  Night of the Notables- When choosing a character, please make sure it is from a book.  Characters from movies (although they make leveled readers for them also) are not allowed.
§  Date Reminders- We have a field trip tomorrow (Wednesday).  Please pack a separate snack and your child’s lunch in the container sent home today.  Friday is a ½ day with 11:25 dismissal.
§  Sickness/Fever/Throw-up Policy- If your child has a fever, they cannot return to school until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours.  In addition, we have had several children come to school after throwing up that morning or on the way to school.  If your child throws up, please keep them home for the day.  Both of these policies are to prevent the spread of sickness as much as possible!
§  Absences- If your child is absent due to sickness, please let me know via note in their folder (upon return) or an email.  If you are planning a trip or vacation when your child is going to be absent, please let me know.  There are times that we have fun things planned but our schedule is flexible for a few days in order for your child to enjoy the activity with us if I know to change the plans ahead of time.  Also, if your child is going to be gone for an extended amount of time (more than a week), please let me know.  Right now the school does not have an attendance policy but that is in the process of changing.  In general, work is not sent home ahead of time due to the ever-changing schedule we have.  Your child will receive work and catch-up upon his/her return.
