Weekly Newsletter

Below I have posted a copy of our newsletter for this week.  Please read through it and let me know if you have any questions.  If it is difficult to read, please let me know and I will make sure to email the PDF as well as post it to the blog.

Any questions I received after Curriculum Night were answered in the newsletter as well as some additional information.  Please make sure you are reading the notifications that are posted and sent home to stay up-to-date on our class' happenings.

I forgot to mention in the newsletter about the literacy bags.  They were not sent home last week due to technical difficulties at the school.  Our laminating machine has been broken for weeks, so I have been unable to laminate and protect the games that go inside of them.  Bags will go home by Friday with or without the games and I will keep you updated on that.  Please reiterate to your child how important it is that they take care of the items inside the bag so other children can enjoy them as well.

Lastly, our first spelling test and DOLCH test were last Thursday and Friday, Sept. 13 and 14.  As a reminder, the words for each week of the school year can be found at the back of your child's daily folder behind the yellow "Resources" paper.  The Enrichment words are optional and will not be tested in any capacity.  Although I do not want you to "drill and kill" the words each week, reviewing and practicing them at home with your child is beneficial and helps reduce test taking anxiety your child may feel.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

*Please note that the sole function of the spelling test is not to merely test your child's memorization of words.  It is also a way to practice listening to and following directions.  This past week, many students did not follow the testing procedures/directions.  I repeated the directions for the test more than 5 times and demonstrated on the board by showing how/where to write the words.  Some students did not follow the directions and wrote the number words in order going down the test, regardless of the test directions and examples, resulting in a poor grade on the spelling test.
