Grading at the Scholars' Academy


Grading

The grading scare at the Scholars' Academy is different than that of a regular school.  Instead of "A," "B,"
"C" grades, we use a a 1, 2, 3 to rank student achievement.  A "1" is the highest score while a "3" is the 
lowest.  The grading scale description below is taken directly from the 2012-2013 Staff Handbook.  When 
you receive your child's progress report or report card, please refer to the guidelines below to familiarize
yourself with the guidelines and expectations of the grading system before requesting a conference. 

EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS (1)
Academic Performance – Attains 95% of the objectives for an assigned unit of instruction for a reporting period.
Homework – Is completed as due and adds thoughtful elements to the classroom review/discussion of the 
assignment.
Classroom Participation – Indicates original examination of the topic of discussion and incorporates comments 
of others into the discussion.
Behavior – Demonstrates exemplary behavior and/or provides positive leadership in the classroom. Student has 
received fewer than 2 warnings/turned tokens for the reporting period.
MEETS EXPECTATIONS (2)
Academic Performance – Attains 75% of the objectives for an assigned unit(s) of instruction for a reporting 
period.
Homework – All homework is completed and available in the classroom on the assigned date.
Classroom Participation - Consistently makes comments focused on the learning topic, and discusses the 
comments of others in a constructive way.
Behavior – Student has received 2 or fewer warnings/turned tokens for the reporting period.
DOES NOT MEET EXPECTATIONS (3)
Academic Performance – Attains fewer than 75 % of the objectives for an assigned unit(s) of instruction 
during the reporting period.
Homework – Is not complete and/or available to be used in class on the assigned due date.
Classroom Participation – Provides minimal contributions to discussion, and/or provides off-topic comments 
during discussion.
Behavior – Student has received 3 or more warnings for the reporting period.
